Tens of thousands of Freddo bars to be given away FREE to comfort Brits after shock price hike

In Press Releases by Abbie Dickinson

The shock news that Freddo chocolate bars are set to rise in price to a massive 30p has prompted outrage in fans of the beloved confectionery – but one consumer champion has acted to comfort beleaguered chocolate lovers by promising to fund tens of thousands of Freddo purchases.

For anyone who needs a Freddo after the bad news, cashback site Quidco’s grocery service ClickSnap will give the full cost of the currently 26p bar back to the first 20,000 consumers who upload a receipt to their ClickSnap app – or the first 20,000 single bars uploaded if people are buying in bulk, whichever happens first. Yes, that means free comfort chocolate for up to 20,000 people.

The offer is available for those buying at Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Asda, and applies to single bars only. You can get your money back on purchases of up to five Freddos. (Full offer details below)

ClickSnap spokesperson Cathal Wogan says: “We were shocked when we saw the news of the price hike and as consumer champions had to act. This is an iconic bar that many of us fell in love with when it was a 10p staple – hopefully this comfort chocolate will ease the pain caused by the shock news.

“We would encourage those buying five to spread the love to family and friends. It’s important to be there for each other at sad times like these. That said, we can’t blame you if you hoard them for yourself, or smash the five in one go.”

ClickSnap is cashback site Quidco’s special service that helps people get rewards and freebies on their grocery shopping. The app is downloadable for free for iOS and Android, and you can also shop on desktop. Rewards including the purchase value of these 20,000 Freddos are then given to consumers on upload of a receipt showing the transaction from specific retailers.

Food giants Mondelēz is due to hike Freddo prices, they say as a “last resort” to “keep favourite brands on the shelf”. This comes after they caused controversy by tampering with the iconic shape of Toblerone bars last year to cut back on the amount of chocolate used.
